«THE LINE» Project

The Line represents an engine for development in the studied area, as well as an opportunity at the local and municipal levels.

The main objectives of the project were: facilitating non-motorized mobility, increasing the safety of the area, improving the urban image, and mitigating the effects of physical and noise pollution.

The project involved close collaboration among all urban actors in Bucharest: whether it was public consultations, debates, or other activities, citizens were involved in every stage. Since the project took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, technology played an important role in its implementation.

As such, an exploratory study was conducted, predominantly utilizing digital mapping and querying methods, which were combined with field visits and participatory observations. In the end, approximately 4,000 citizens expressed their opinions about the future of the area, and as a result of this extensive consultation, the development concept was finalized.

The project consisted of several phases and required an interdisciplinary team composed of urban planners, architects, landscape architects, sociologists, and anthropologists.

The final result was translated into a detailed design concept at the feasibility study level, validated, and supported by the community.
